Cholesterol is a lipid, or fat, needed for building cell membranes. It comes either from diet or is otherwise manufactured by the body (endogenous cholesterol). The lipid is combined with certain proteins by the liver to make lipoproteins which carry the lipid through the bloodstream, to the cells. There are two types of lipoproteins. One is low density lipoprotein (LDL) and the other is high density lipoprotein (HDL). While cholesterol is essential for the cells and for making certain hormones, too high a concentration in the blood is a major risk for coronary heart disease.</p>
<p>Cholesterol in the blood comes preponderantly from LDL while a small portion is from HDL. The risk of coronary disease from cholesterol comes chiefly from the so called &#8220;bad&#8221; LDL cholesterol. If the level of LDL is too high, deposition of fat (lipid), as plaque, occurs on the artery walls, narrowing them. This often leads to high blood pressure, heart attacks and strokes. Hence a low level of LDL is desirable. The HDL cholesterol is thought to scour the artery walls of deposited plaque, and is therefore called &#8220;good&#8221;. Hence the higher the level of HDL, the better it is.</p>
<p>To stay healthy, the aim should be to reduce the LDL cholesterol level; increase the HDL level; and maintain the total cholesterol level within normal limits i.e. desirable levels which correspond to lower risk of heart diseases. As per the American Heart Association (AHA), less than 200 mg/dL (milligram per deciliter) i.e. &lt; 200 mg/dL, corresponding to &lt; 5.2 mmol/Lt (millimole per liter) of total cholesterol is the desirable (low heart disease risk) level; 200 to 239 mg/dL (5.2-6.2 mmol/Lt) is a borderline high risk level; and greater than 240 mg/dL (&gt; 6.2 mmol/Lt) is the high risk category. Considering that LDL and HDL cholesterols are determined separately, the desired upper limit for the &#8216;bad&#8217; LDL cholesterol is considered to be 100mg/dL (2.6 mmol/Lt). In the case of the &#8216;good&#8217; HDL, &gt;60 mg/dL is considered the best.</p>
<p>There are a number of medicines available to reduce cholesterol levels, including the &#8217;statin&#8217; group of drugs. However, the first option, before use of drugs, should be the non-prescription route of diet, physical exercise and weight loss - a tried and tested method when other reasons for high cholesterol level, like previous history of artery disease, do not exist.</p>

<p>The body requires a number of different proteins and it is the B6 vitamin that ensures that the correct forms are available. For example, the B6 vitamin will create haemoglobin for carrying oxygen in the blood cells, hormones for regulating blood pressure, neurotransmitters and various enzymes.</p>
<p>The recommended daily allowance for the B6 vitamin is only around 2.0mg but this seemingly insignificant amount is used extremely efficiently within the body to produce over sixty different enzymes. The best sources of the B6 vitamin are high-protein foods such as eggs, fish, poultry, and meat and it is also added to breakfast cereals and bread to ensure that everyone is able to consume their recommended daily allowance, even if they do not eat meat products. An additional amount of the b6 vitamin may be beneficial for the heart and immune system. B6 vitamin supplements are sometimes required by asthmatics and diabetics. <p>As the B6 vitamin is found in many common foods the majority of people receive sufficient amounts of the vitamin from their normal diet. There are some groups that may need to take a B6 vitamin supplement to ensure that they obtain the recommended daily allowance. <p>To start the discussion on oily skin care, it&#8217;s imperative to first understand the cause behind oily skin. Put simply, oily skin is a result of excessive production of sebum (an oily substance that is naturally produced by skin). As is known to everyone, excess of everything is bad; so excessive sebum is bad too. It leads to clogging of skin pores, resulting in accumulation of dead cells and hence formation of pimples/acne. Moreover, oily skin spoils your looks too. So, &#8216;oily skin care&#8217; is as important as the &#8217;skin care&#8217; for other types of skin.</p>
<p>The basic aim of &#8216;oily skin care&#8217; is the removal of excessive sebum or oil from the skin. However, oily skin care procedures should not lead to complete removal of oil. &#8216;Oily skin care&#8217; starts with the use of a cleanser. However, not all cleansers will work. You need a cleanser which contains salicylic acid i.e. a beta-hydroxy acid that retards the rate of sebum production. Cleansing should be done twice a day (and even more in hot and humid conditions).</p>
<p>Most of the oily skin care products are oil-free; however, it is always good to check the ingredients of the product, before you actually buy it. This is especially important if a product is marked as &#8217;suitable for all skin types&#8217;, instead of &#8216;oily skin care product&#8217;. &#8216;Oily skin care&#8217; is also dependent on the degree of oiliness, if you aren&#8217;t too oily, so some of these &#8217;suitable for all&#8217;- type of products might be work for you too. For extremely oily skin, only oily skin care products are suitable. Your oily skin care routine can include an alcohol based toner (for an extremely oily skin). This can be the second step in your oily skin care routine i.e. just after cleansing. However, excessive toning can harm your skin.</p>
<p>The next step in your oily skin care routine can be a mild moisturiser. Again, the degree of oiliness of your skin will determine whether you need to include this in your oily skin care routine. If you do decide to include a moisturiser, be sure to use one that is oil-free, wax-free and lipid-free.<br />
You could also use a clay mask (say once a week) as an oily skin care measure. </p>
<p>As far as the oily skin care products go, you might need to try out a few before you arrive at the one that is really suitable for your skin. </p>
<p>In case these measures don&#8217;t give you the desired result, consult a good dermatologist for advice. He could prescribe stronger oily skin care products like vitamin A creams, retinoids, sulphur creams etc , which can help counter the problems of oily skin.</p>

You may want to remove unwanted carpets or other dust catchers, bathing pets on a regular basis, and investing in an air filter.
